Lora Chaffins married the actor Matt Long in 2005. This year has given him more reason than usual to talk publicly about that period of his life. He’s written online about the Jeep he drove out to Los Angeles in, the show that gave him his first job, and the college professor who taught him. His wife hasn’t come up once.
Long, best known for playing Zeke Landon on Manifest, returned to Hallmark this February in “The Stars Between Us,” and in late March he announced that Jack & Bobby, his first television series, would begin streaming on Hulu the next day, after being unavailable for two decades. Neither project involves Chaffins directly. Both led him to write about the year before they married, without mentioning her at all.

Meeting Chaffins, and a proposal on a mountain
Long and Chaffins met as students at Western Kentucky University, where Long studied performing arts and graduated in 2002. A professor there, David Young, later said the talent in Long was clear early on: “We all saw promise in Matt from the very beginning.” After graduating, Long moved to New York for stage work, then to Los Angeles in 2004 for his first television role, in Jack & Bobby.
About four months after the move, he took Chaffins, then his girlfriend, hiking up Mount San Antonio, a peak in the San Gabriel range that rises close to ten thousand feet. In a 2015 interview about an unrelated show, Long described the scene: the light turning “orange and purple” as the sun dropped, snow already on the summit, only two other hikers in sight. He proposed at the top. She said yes.
That interview is still the only time Long has described the relationship in any real detail. This year, in a separate post about that same Jeep, he described picking it up in Kentucky and driving it to Los Angeles with his father for that job. Chaffins wasn’t mentioned in that post either.

Marriage, two kids, and what he’s chosen to share
The wedding took place while Jack & Bobby was still on the air. Long and Chaffins have two children, a daughter born in 2014 and a son born in March 2020. When his son was born, in late March 2020, he posted a photo of the baby’s hand gripping his own and called it “the most intense, incredible, and emotional experience of your life.” In the same post, he said he intended to keep his son’s face and name out of public view.
He’s written about their daughter too. In August 2020, he described taking her on her first backpacking trip, three days and thirteen miles through Kings Canyon National Park, and noted she was six years old. In January 2024, he posted about taking both kids to a Monster Jam event. The family also has a cat named Frank, who got a sarcastic voice of his own in a Christmas post back in 2019.
Where the gap gets filled in
Chaffins has given no interview on record. That hasn’t stopped pages from filling in details anyway. Her birth year is commonly listed as 1982, and almost as often as 1979, with neither figure traced to anything she or Long has confirmed. Several pages describe her as a former actress with specific film credits attached to her name, though no such credits appear in any film or television database. Other pages list a net worth or physical description that shows up nowhere else and is sourced to nothing at all.
What actually holds up is smaller: the wedding date, the university where they met, the ages of their two children, and the twenty-one years since, during which nothing attributed to her has ever been verified anywhere.
This pattern isn’t new. Long has narrated his cat’s opinions about Christmas presents and written paragraphs about a used car for years. This year simply gave him more chances to mention his wife somewhere in the middle of it. He didn’t take any of them.
