Carson Daly, the Voice host who officiated their wedding, has admitted he once tried to talk the couple out of dating.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are still together, and Shelton has dismissed the tabloid stories that said otherwise. They married on 3 July 2021 at Shelton’s ranch in Oklahoma and celebrated their fifth anniversary this July.
Stefani turned 57 on 3 October, and Shelton posted a series of photos of the two of them on Instagram, calling her “the best there is”. In her Instagram Stories, she unwrapped his present, a diamond necklace with an “11” pendant. She did not say what the number meant. The couple went public with their relationship in November 2015, almost 11 years ago.
Their latest appearance together was on The Voice, the singing contest where they met as coaches in 2014. NBC broadcast a special for the show’s 30th season on 17 September. It was filmed in July and sat them at a roundtable with the host, Carson Daly, and two of Shelton’s fellow original coaches, the Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine and CeeLo Green.

“This’ll never work”
Daly, who has hosted The Voice since it began in 2011, had doubts about the romance at the time. Shelton had just split from the country singer Miranda Lambert, and Stefani was ending her marriage to Gavin Rossdale, the frontman of the band Bush. On the special, Daly reminded them of what he had said on a visit to Stefani’s house:
“You both went through a crazy divorce, publicly. We went to Gwen’s house once, and I’ve known you for a long time and I love you, and I was like, ‘You guys gotta stop this. This’ll never work.'”
“You did try to get us to pump the brakes,” Shelton said.
Stefani said the show “came at the most insane time of my life, probably one of the worst times of my life. And then it turned into one of the greatest things.” The show, she said, was “the reason that I met Blake Shelton and my life completely changed.”
Years later, Shelton rang Daly in New York to ask whether he would officiate the wedding. Daly married them in the chapel Shelton built on his ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, in front of about 40 guests.
Where the divorce rumours came from
Stefani has faced this kind of talk before. In April 2024 she told the magazine Nylon that “a week ago we were getting divorced again or something”. “It’s just lies,” she said. “The truth is the truth, and we know what that is.” In the same interview she admitted she had been “getting paranoid” about the relationship around the time she wrote “Purple Irises”, their duet about insecurity.
“Hangin’ On”, a 2025 duet from Shelton’s album For Recreational Use Only, is about a couple who break up and still try to stay together. Shelton told the radio company Audacy that the storyline was “not really relatable for Gwen and I”, and that they “love to step into those roles”.
The latest wave of divorce stories began in November 2025, when the tabloid Star quoted an unnamed insider who said the couple were “living separate lives”. They also stayed away from the Country Music Association Awards on 19 November, even though Shelton had been named Musical Event of the Year that morning for his part on Post Malone’s “Pour Me a Drink”. A source told E! News they planned to watch on TV.
Shelton addressed the stories in January while co-hosting the radio show Country Countdown USA. He said he had started noticing them “in October, I think, or maybe November”, and that one photo of the couple leaving a grocery store was enough for the headlines to switch to “Oh, they’re back together again!” He had also seen convincing pictures of the two of them online that were not real. In one, he said, he was wearing a shirt he doesn’t own. “I don’t believe anything anymore that I see on the internet,” he told listeners.

Two residencies on the same nights
Their schedules collided in May. Stefani’s band, No Doubt, opened a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas on 6 May, the same night Shelton was playing the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. From his own stage, he told the audience his wife was in town but “over there at another venue”. “What kind of a d***head books us the exact same nights every single night?” he asked, before apologising to his manager.
Backstage at the Academy of Country Music Awards on 17 May, Shelton told the country music site Country Now that he still hadn’t seen her show. He said the two of them would “meet up after we’re both done performing” each night and head back to the hotel or home, depending on the day of the week, by which point “she’s just dragging”.
He finally caught the show on a night off over the US Memorial Day weekend, at the end of May, and posted afterwards that he was “so proud of my wife”.
A fifth anniversary and a surprise duet in Ohio
In July, the celebrity magazine In Touch quoted another unnamed insider, who said friends had watched the couple deal with “the same old issues”. That same month, Shelton wrote on Instagram for their anniversary that “every day is better than the last”. Stefani shared wedding photos captioned “5 years married to my forever” and later posted a video from their anniversary date night.
In August, Stefani surprised the crowd at the VOA Country Music Festival in West Chester, Ohio, where Shelton was headlining, and joined her husband for “Nobody But You” and “Happy Anywhere”. She had brought their dog, Betty, and captioned her video “me + betty decided to pull up”.
Betty died a few weeks later, at 18. Stefani’s tribute in early September said the dog had “made us all smile for 18 years”. Shelton adopted Betty before he and Stefani began dating, so she had been in his life longer than his wife had. She also appears with the couple in the music video for “Nobody But You”, the song they sang together in Ohio.
